These are some things that I have noticed that are problematic. Whether due to my ignorance or weaknesses in the program is yet to be discovered. But here is a record of my thoughts on these issues and hopefully I can resolve them.
- What are the rules for automatically choosing words as wiki links? When I write UR Ls? it appears as UR Ls and a wiki link. I need to find out how to override or prevent these odd results.
- I'm not clear about the use of organizers. Pm Wiki comes with Main and Pm Wiki and I have added my own organizers: Life, Personal, Classes. Not sure quite how to think about these things.
- the partial answer seems to be that these are groups. How exactly they behave, I'm just not sure about yet.
- Coloring. I'm sure I can get into the templates to do this, but gotta figure out how this happens.
- Where do dead entries go? If I create an entry and then decide to rewrite it or change it's location (move from one category to another) there is still an entry in wiki.d. How do I clean these up. I suppose there might be a tool to review these perhaps.
- How to move entries from one node to antother for example I wanted to move Main/Entry to Life/Entry but I cannot do that easily. Perhaps I could just rename it in wiki.d. But for now I just used cut and paste.
- How to deal with security. I'd like to password most of this wiki and then create some editable subsections in order to let my students create entries. Although the documentation seems to address this to some extent, I haven't quite figured it out yet.
- What happened to the formatting in one of my entries? In AboutThisWiki there the word wrap generates very long lines, however this does not happen in other entries which have nice margins. (note this problem was resolved itself, not sure what the problem was).
- Do you think there is a way to hyperlink entries from another wiki? So that if I want to link an item from another wiki could I get it to appear in my page sort of seamlessly so that the user does not lose her place.
- Header font is way too big. Gotta work on the style template. There are other versions in the Cookbook that might be worth trying. I need to feel more confidence in this environment before I go screwing around with changing other settings.
- I'm still not sure about how this whole thing works. By creating an entry you create a sub page, which can be searched. If you take away the reference I guess you can still access it through the search engine.
- This is a bit tangetial to Pm Wiki but I need a way to back up this wiki to an off-site location. Probably I should set up my various computers to back it up automatically when it starts up, at various intervals after start up and then finally when I log out.
Problems Solved
- Why do things like the above become one word? I.e., why are the spaces lost? Is there a way to avoid this. Perhaps I should make shorter entries at least so I can easily reuse them later and they won't look so bad.
- I changed the settings in config.php and solved the problem.
