Wikidom

  • Garsh I love wikidom. I find this way of interacting with text really fits well with my frenetic way of thinking. I tend to jump around a lot in whatever I do. Lateral thinking? My friend Jerrod Hansen claims his internet activities have ruined his ability to focus. Link for Jerrod goes here. This form has its linear aspects, which might help keep it organized in a way that is discernable to the reader, but makes it a blast for people like me who go on wild tangents at every chance they get.

  • Problems in Wikidom. How well accepted are wikis as resources in writing papers? I have to teach research and wonder how the idea of sourcing knowledge changes in the wikisphere? Of course, in referencing websites, you need to write "accessed on ..."or some equivalent reference. But this still doesn't answer the problem of the shifting knowledgebase. You could reference something that will never be accessible again tomorrow. I don't think this problem is insurmountable but those who on both ends of the research paradigm need to be aware of it.

  • Although I've thought of wikis as online collaborative encyclopedias (as in the wikipedia) I'm attempting to use it as a personal web page.

  • Man I wish I had this when I started writing my dissertation. However formatting issues would make it problematic for getting your disseration ideas out. But the blog metaphor has serious possibilities.

Wiki as web training wheels...

I like the concept of open wiki-ing but somebody has to take responsibility for finding and correcting vandalism.

I think the "open" concept is emphasized to the detriment of the idea of "quick".

I love wikiwiki my life is beginning to make sense!

Wiki as glue to hold ones life together.

This is the answer to my idea of multiple diaries.
