Romanization

To convert from a non-roman based orthography to a Roman one. I have only seen this used this in reference to Japanese writing, but assume it could apply to any non-roman orthography. The Japanese call the alphabetic writing romaji.

as an example here is the Japanese for the city "Osaka"

大阪

which is Romanzied as:

oosaka
