Macintonsh iChat doesn't support USB cameras. Stupid, snobbish, stupid. Yes, tell everybody how great firewire cameras are, but don't avoid supporting computing for the masses who can't afford or don't have the bandwidth to make it worth it.

So I have a Logitech ?? 4000 webcam. A very good camera that goes for about $80.00 US.

So I have to find a patch. Go to version tracker. Make a decision based on price (FREE is good) and whether it has enough downloads and positive feedback.

First try Mac Cam? 0.8.3 but ouch what a mess of files I got. Best I can tell is that in order to do iChat, I must have to install the driver in the Quicktime folder in the library. But it doesn't explicitly say this will work for iChat. One could only think that iChat might use Quicktime drivers. Should I take the chance?

From the README file:

Macam consists of two parts that can be used independently: A standalone application ("macam") and a Quick Time? driver component that allows you to use your webcam with other applications ("macam.component"). Starting the application is simple: Double-click the application icon. To install the component copy "macam.component" to the "/Library/Quicktime/" folder.
