20060220Rain was starting and I almost decided to take the train. Couldn't bear the train, but didn't want to deal with the rain. The rain won, I rode. At about Juuso it started raining kind of hard. Too late to turn back, I was committed. The worst part was that they blocked off the main river walk for some construction, so I had to ride through the muddy puddles and sand on the alternate route. The bike and I were covered with sandy silt. Fortunately at school I had easy access to a hose and got a chance to hose off my bicycle. The seat had an 1/8th inch of sand on it. I was pretty soaked. My gloves got their hardest test. They withstood the cold well, but what about the rain. They kept me warm and didn't really notice that they were soaked. My shoes also took some long drinks and my socks were pretty soggy. I guess the shoes are waterproof, but the water managed to get in from the top. Everything dried out pretty well, except the gloves and probably the boots. I decided to train it back. The rain was mostly over, but it was dark and I was just not feeling like riding. I left the gloves hanging in my office and they were nice and dry by the next morning when I got to my office. Fortunately I had oil in my office because on the next ride, it was not shifting well. A little oil and smooth running man. Sweet shifts. |
