Starting times. Japanese mornings wake up with astonishing regularity across the country. Each segment of society has it's own time to start. This gives a cyclist with a University job who therefore has no such lockstep constraints the option to choose the time to start a ride. At one time, you have to deal with elementary school kids, at another, high school kids, and so on. Finally at 9:00 there is a brief lull before people come out in their cars to shop and the normal business of the day goes into full swing.

Today I left at 7:30. It was an o.k. time. The first half was a bit challenging with clusters of high school students. Suddenly, by the time I got to Mikuni, the high school students were gone.

Unfortunately I leave at sort of unpredictable times. Since I didn't sleep well last night, I was not very awake when 7:00 came around and there were various things I had to get together and kept forgetting this and that so I couldn't leave until 7:30. I remember one 6:50 departure when there were virtually no cars to be found. So far I think this is the best time to leave, although leaving by 7:10 I think is generally the best. I get to the Yodogawa before the high school kids start in earnest.
