Today was one of the standard loops from Minoo station through the mystic heart of eastern Toyono-gun. We left around 6:40, and using the car road (rather than the "takimichi" walking path) rode through the Quasi-National park to the village of Takayama and then down hill (yeeha, what a downhill!) to Route 423, the Ikeda-Kameoka road. From the town of Yono, we took the middle crossing, Route 109, over to Ibaraki and followed the Ibaraki river to the village of Baba, where we turned south and left the forests and rice paddies and re-entered suburban Osaka at Saito (Which hopefully will be the last of the "new towns" in these parts). This time of year is the best for riding and today was ideal. The Fuji flowers are exceptionally good this year (and oh that pungent smell). Chad scored some cattails in order to prove to his wife that they actually exist in Japan. However, I tried to avoid riding behind him in hope that one of those lovely puffs of disintegrating seed didn't wind up in my mouth or up my nose.
