20050215Riding to school today.Fell down the stairs between Ogawa and ?gawa. It was like that gaping vortex, the black hole sucking me in. The same vortex that once resided on the back side of the Euclid Ave. block. I started down the ramp and my bike was sucked into the stairs. I rumbled down, scared but quickly realized I could make it till I hit the landing between the two staircases and immediately stopped. Breaking that trimmed my speed down the 45 degrees stairs, brought me to a dead stop on the level portion. A bit of pain at first which soon subsided, but then was hurting a bit when got to my office about 15 minutes later. I was surprised to see the gougue and blood when I took off my tights, though it had torn a nice round hole in my skin, it was fairly mild. I taped some tissue on to keep my pants from getting bloody. I went to the clinic and the nurse cleaned it up. She didn't have any ibuprofen, but I found some in my desk happily. Cut through the city from Yodogawa to the vortexual stairs and cut off some distance and odometer time from my ride, though because of more stoplights it was doubtless longer in real time. Return trip.I decide to take the road North on the other side of JR Tamatsukuri and promptly ended up getting quite far up river. Added about 4 Km onto the ride compared to the morning. Why do I always choose the worst weather to try new routes? I guess perhaps it makes it more interesting to be lost. As long as I don't get too lost, wet, or cold I can manage. It was a light rain the whole way home but didn't amount to much. My clothes were damp. My deuter backpack was dripping more from the rainproof cover because of the splash from the back tire I guess. |
